Panatrol Automation & Controls is proud to have contributed to the successful completion of the North Hero – Grand Isle Drawbridge Replacement project, a major infrastructure initiative led by the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). The project modernized Vermont’s only movable bridge, which serves as an essential link connecting the Lake Champlain islands.
The replacement bridge preserves the historic twin-leaf bascule design while significantly upgrading its reliability, safety, and efficiency. With over 3,000 vehicles crossing daily, a number that doubles in the busy summer months, this structure plays a vital role in the region’s transportation network.
Panatrol provided advanced automation and control systems that support the bridge’s daily operations. Highlights of our involvement include custom-engineered systems for the dual-leaf mechanism, redundant CPUs for seamless operation, and an industrial-grade wireless communication network designed to eliminate the need for underwater cabling. These upgrades helped eliminate downtime, enhance system performance, and ensure long-term durability for the bridge.
This project represents the seamless integration of modern technology into a historically significant structure - something we’re proud to have made possible.
